Dr Jason Maani is a Specialist Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with a strong focus on

After completing his medical degree at the University of Auckland, Dr Maani undertook specialist
training in General Surgery through leading institutions including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He subsequently completed sub specialist training in Upper
Gastrointestinal surgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, followed by advanced fellowship
training in minimally invasive Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery at St George Hospital in Sydney, where
he now practices.
Dr Maani has been recognised for his surgical outcomes and commitment to patient care, including
receiving the Master Surgeon Award in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, reflecting excellence in
safety, consistency, and clinical results.
His practice is built around a modern understanding of obesity as a chronic, progressive, and
relapsing condition. He works closely with GPs, endocrinologists, and allied health providers to
deliver a comprehensive metabolic approach, integrating medical therapy, lifestyle strategies, and
surgery where appropriate.
He is a member of ANZGOSA and OSSANZ and is a regular contributor to the Bariatric Surgery
